Stapedotomy

image

Otosclerosis is a middle ear condition where the stapes (smallest bone in the middle ear) get fixed and become immobile. This results in hearing loss. To improve hearing, stapes have to be  surgically removed, and a Teflon/titanium prosthesis
has to be implanted to simulate the function of stapes This surgical procedure is called stapedotomy or stapedectomy.
