Adenoidectomy

image

Adenoid is a collection of lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx (back end of the nose). It is present in all children. Usually, it is small and regresses by the age of 6 years. However, in some children, it may become large and persist even into adulthood. This results in snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Additionally, this can cause middle ear infection and middle ear effusion resulting in ear ache, ear discharge, and hearing loss. In such instances, the adenoid may have to be surgically removed (Adenoidectomy). Our preferred technique is powered adenoidectomy using a microdebrider. It has advantages over conventional adenoidectomy such as improved visualization, lesser bleeding, and better disease clearance.
